LANGUAGE ARTS
Our Kindergarten to Grade Eight Language Arts programme addresses student learning in the essential areas of reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
Developing confident readers with solid decoding skills begins in Junior Kindergarten, where students gain a solid understanding of letter names and their phonetic sounds, individually and in combination.
Reading and comprehension skills are built upon and practised through a variety of literature genres, engaging texts and novel studies throughout the grades.
Our writing program includes manuscript printing, cursive writing, grammar, spelling and creative writing. We employ the Six +1 Trait ® writing program for teaching effective writing skills. Listening and speaking skills are developed through meaningful activities, Drama and presentation opportunities in a variety of subject areas. Media literacy is also an important element of our Language programme.
